Hello Key Biscayne!
A tragic accident left a KB mother dead over the weekend.
Here is an unrelated photo of the changes at the Winn Dixie mall.
Was this supposed to look better or just make the logo look bigger?
Death Key Biscayner Paula Curra Raffetti died on Sunday after a speeding drunk driver hit her car on Saturday night. She is survived by her husband and children.
Reap what you sow There’s some people on the Key Colony HOA board who have been very vocal promoting fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) and even peddling conspiracy theories about how the Village government is run. Now they’re in the hot seat as a series of oversights means they’ll have to raise maintenance fees. “We’re 25% of the Key!” they said, as the people they represent all pay more for nothing. 💸
Testing, testing While we wait for all the possible reasons our beaches are dirtier now than they were in the past (best guess right now is manatee poop 😏), here’s a short guide on just how all that water testing works. 🐙

In response to last week’s talk of banning fishing at the Mashta bridge and the loss of unsanctioned free spaces:
Well said in regards to the loss of “unsanctioned free space.” Never really thought of it that way, but it’s true. The ski dock really fulfilled that need. It was where we would serendipitously run into others with key roots. Where you could make a really loose commitment to showing up. Stuff like that is so essential to community.
…The main issue is that there weren’t enough people showing up to the council meeting to voice their support! We need that. The December meeting is when we are scheduled to present the solutions, and that’s probably the last hoorah!
Great piece fighting off the ban on the bridge / fishing.
Hope the new crowd can appreciate it. In my personal experience, they might not. I hosted a birthday party for my 2-year at the Beach Park, earlier this year. Hours before any kid could arrive at the park, a faux-blonde lady called city hall complaining. A city officer later stopped by to scrutinize my plans.
The city hall officer was extremely nice and saw no harm in our plans. However, the lady that complained had quite a childish and deplorable reaction after the officer allowed the party planning to go on. She must have a sad, sad life…
