Hello Key Biscayne!
Merry Xmas (or whatever pagan holiday you celebrate)! This is the last Rag before the 25th so we need to get in the spirit right now. I hope you enjoy your holiday very much, whether it’s with your family or with your four cats. 😽
Unrelated: you ever hang out at the pond after dark?
Let’s get on with it.
But are they LED? Did you notice they moved the Christmas lights from the Village Green to the capitol district this year? Did that bother you? You’re not alone. There’s one other person also bothered (but he kind of makes a good point). 🕯
Boring dystopia The Key cops are getting 40 AR-15 rifles in case they have to shoot a kid who brings an AR-15 rifle to school, or someone hunting iguanas. They’re also getting little helmets to complete the look. 🔫
Rotofarian Mark Fried was named Rotarian of the Year by the KB Rotary Club. You can read the laundry list of things he’s done for the island in the linked article, but suffice to say it’s more than most. This writer can also attest that he’s impressive on the slalom waterski, and a good guy to have a drink with. 🏄♂️
(This has zero to do with the Key so feel free to skip it.)
You guys ever drink eggnog? It’s a tasty drink even if it doesn’t quite make sense in this climate. Anywho, here’s a recipe I use in case you’re curious. It goes great on Xmas morning and will keep for months in the fridge, as long as you include the alcohol.
Makes ~1.75L, enough to fill a handle.
6 large eggs
170g granulated sugar (~200ml by volume)
1.5tsp grated nutmeg
180ml Jamaican rum
530ml whole milk
350ml heavy cream
Put the eggs in a blender and mix until thoroughly beat, slowly add sugar until combined, keep adding the rest of the ingredients until it’s all thoroughly mixed. Pop it in the fridge so it gets real cold, then give it a stir or a shake if it’s frothy when you go to serve. Add more alcohol if you want.
Grate a little nutmeg on top and drink until your family’s complaining fades away. 🥚
